Diagnosis

WP7 focuses on implementing liquid biopsy (LB) technologies in routine diagnostics and ensuring equitable access across EU Member States. It addresses laboratory readiness and the integration of innovative testing methods in healthcare systems.

This work package aims to scale up circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) and liquid biopsy to European Union-wide implementation and prepare cancer care for the adoption of advanced diagnostics. It focuses on diagnostic data provision and the development of an observational diagnostic testing platform.

Tasks

Task 7.1: Scale up circulating tumour DNA and liquid biopsy to European Union-wide implementation

Implement best practices in circulating tumour DNA and liquid biopsy profiling across Europe by joining Task 7.1 with a pragmatic, learn-by-doing pilot. This will allow countries with less mature infrastructure and capabilities to perform circulating tumour DNA profiling to learn from those leading this development in a co-creational pilot.

Task 7.2: Prepare cancer care for adoption of upcoming advanced diagnostics

Prepare expert communities for the rollout of promising technologies such as whole genome sequencing, digital pathology, and functional diagnostics. Perform a horizon scanning of emerging technologies and identify processes to integrate them into cancer care.

Task 7.3: Diagnostic data provision

Currently, the lack of standardised meta-data vocabularies causes fragmentation, reducing the FAIRness of data. For future diagnostics, we need to link electronic health record data with experimental and bioinformatic analyses using international standards like openEHR, FIHR, and OMOP. Both healthcare providers and researchers must adopt these standards and connect data platforms for genomics and clinical imaging.

Task 7.4: Observational diagnostic testing platform

Prepare a framework to roll out innovative practices towards an observational diagnostic testing platform.
